Jazz in the Park announces its 2017 lineup

The weather may be cool, but the warm nights of summer are just around the corner – and as a helpful reminder, Jazz in the Park today announced the lineup for its upcoming 26th annual festival, returning to Cathedral Square Park from June 1 through Aug. 31.

As usual, while jazz may get top billing in the title, the lineup for the weekly summer concert event – newly sponsored this year by Educators Credit Union – offers plenty of tuneful variety from across genres and across the globe, from funk to R&B, local favorites (Extra Crispy Brass Band, Streetlife) to a nine-piece group from Barcelona (Alma Afrobeat Ensemble). But, of course, there will be plenty of jazz, too.

Here's what soulful sounds to expect this summer:

June 1: Extra Crispy Brass Band

June 8: Clave Y Afinque

June 15: The Rhythm Rockets

June 22: Legends of Milwaukee Jazz

June 29: Alma Afrobeat Ensemble

July 6: The Blues Disciples

July 13-16: Bastille Days

July 20: Christopher's Project

July 27: Paul Spencer Band

Aug. 3: Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal

Aug. 10: Salsa Manzana

Aug. 17: Fresh Faces of Milwaukee Jazz featuring Foreign Goods and Roxi Copland

Aug. 24: Incendio and Terra Guitarra

Aug. 31: Streetlife featuring Warren Wiegratz and Vivo

Jazz in the Park runs from 6 until 9 p.m. every Thursday night, with happy hour drink specials running beforehand from 5 to 6 p.m., and local food and beverage vendors surrounding the venue throughout the night.
