Why you can’t miss it

What started as Ben Gibbard’s solo project in the late ’90s has grown into one of modern rock’s most recognizable acts. In the early 2000s, Death Cab for Cutie led the way in making "indie" music mainstream. This is not a show to be missed at The Rave on Saturday. Well, Summer can miss it ...

You and Seth may not.

Song starter pack

The Hit: "Soul Meets Body"

The single off of "Plans" bolted Death Cab from an indie band with a cult following into America’s living rooms through network television’s most popular drama. The 2005 song represents the peak in their mainstream popularity, but there were still many runs left in their shoes after this one.

The B-Side Beauty: "Transatlanticism"

Can a title track be a "B-side Beauty"? We’ll say yes since this track preceded the band’s aforementioned mainstream breakout. "Transatlanticism" is a fable that teaches that some things are much further away from us than they appear, and we only begin to realize how far away they are once we try to obtain them.

Can’t Wait to See It Live: "I Will Possess Your Heart"

This will be the highlight of the evening. Its baseline has the persistence that your author had when seeking out that first date with his better half. Let’s hope that we get the long version to appreciate the full effect of the four-and-a-half minute instrumental that kicks off the album version. This song is a tour de force.
