Ready, set, BACON!

Bacon and running are two words that typically don't go well together, but avid runner and event coordinator Chris Ponteri had a dream. A dream to make running fun and a dream to race for bacon.

The Race For Bacon isn't the first event he created that incorporates running with off beat themes. Ponteri has been a essential in helping to create and organize the Ice Breaker Indoor Marathon and Half Marathon at the Pettit National Ice Center for the last five years. The Ice Breaker will once again be back in January 2014.

Ponteri has also helped create The Great MKE Race, which incorporates solving clues and performing wacky challenges around Milwaukee. He also has plans for a beer race and run on Candy Cane Lane during the holiday season.

If you are a bacon lover, Race For The Bacon is your event. The first 125 finishers will get bacon. The top three male and female winners will get bacon. The auction winners will get bacon. This year's Bacon Bash will be catered by Chef Oz at Emerald City Catering.

The Bacon Bash after the race will include bacon, ham and turkey club Sandwiches, BLT Dip with Corn Chips plus beer, soda and water. There will be over 500 pounds of Patrick Cudahy Bacon given away at the event. In fact, if you are running the Bacon Race, you can get bacon at the halfway mark of the run.

The Race For Bacon happens Thursday, Aug. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in Sheridan Park. The fee is $40 and a limited number of Bacon Bash tickets will also be available for $15. Go to baconrace.com for more information.

In today's Kramp Cast I talk to Chris Ponteri about the Race For The Bacon 5k, how he got the idea for the event, what other fun races he's organizing and of course we talk bacon. Enjoy!

Ribeiro attempts to escape the Carlton

The "Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" ended almost 20 years ago, but some people won't let the Carlton Dance go away. On the hit '90s sitcom Alfonso Ribeiro played Carlton Banks, a quirky, smart, yet spoiled and rich, cousin of Will Smith. Ribeiro would frequently break out into dance on the show, but when the music of Tom Jones played, viewers knew they would be treated to his famous dance.

The Carlton continues to be a pop culture phenomenon being used by flash mobs, getting big clicks on You Tube, and as I saw first hand last month getting mocked at weddings.

For Ribeiro, the problem is that he regularly gets asked to do the Carlton when in public. He mentioned to me that he even gets asked to dance in the men's room while standing at the urinal. I have to admit that is an uncomfortably odd request in a bathroom, but would he still get asked to dance it if he just stopped doing it all together?

I recently saw him break out into the dance at a celebrity golf tournament and again on BBC's Graham Norton Show, but is that all there is to him? Hopefully for his new show "Spell-Mageddon" that's not the case.

Sometimes actors on sitcoms are only known for the roles they played or their characters catch phrases, but Ribeiro is known for his dance. It's sad that some can't get over that because he is a really good dancer, a professional tap dancer, a good game show host and a fun guy to talk to.

In today's Kramp Cast I talk to Alfonso Ribeiro about hosting "Spell-Mageddon," his days on "Silver Spoons" and "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" and how frequently he's willing to break out and do the Carlton. Enjoy!

People of Earth Hayward Williams is playing Linneman's this Friday

The status update "People of Earth, more specifically, people of Milwaukee that need something to do this Friday" was recently posted on Hayward Williams Facebook page with a link to his upcoming show with Cameron McGill and The Thriftones. His simple yet fun posts and clever observations like "Having the SS Frolics in my front yard is a lot like having a perpetual drunken exploding parade that doesn't go away… ever" keep me being a fan of Williams Facebook page, but his song writing and guitar playing keep me begging for more music.

Williams enjoys playing a wide variety of local venues, but his music isn't confined to Wisconsin. For the last decade, the mature baritone voice and folksy song writing of Williams has built a following that has taken him to Australia, Scandinavia, France, Germany and Switzerland. It's not often that Milwaukee musicians can make a career out of their trade, but Williams is more than content calling it his job. He admits that he's extremely lucky, "Before I got married I was able to live and have it be my job and now that I'm married it's still the same and it's better because I have this at home support."

Williams reveals that his wife likes to travel with him because she gets to see cool places, but he says "She also knows it's totally different being a touring musician in a cool place than it is being a tourist in a cool place." A fact that Williams himself knows all too well. "I was in London on a train asleep and think I opened my eye for one second and saw Big Ben then closed it again." He was also in a cab and passed Abbey Road and didn't even know it until the cab driver confirmed his suspicions.

Williams isn't looking for sympathy though, because as he stated, it's his job. Not many can say that they get to do what they love everyday, but when you do, you'll never work another day in your life. That is something that I've always strived to achieve and that Williams seems to be at peace with.

Aside from being a genuine hum…

Satellite will headline Paxfest 2013

Back in April 2013, a stripped down version of the band Satellite opened up for Tristan Prettyman at Shank Hall. As amazing as seeing frontman Steven McMorran perform songs acoustic is, it's the sound of the full band that makes Satellite so appealing. Satellite is the musical collaboration between McMorran, Josh Dunahoo, Mitch Allan, and Erik Kertes. The band’s introspective lyrics, building tempos and guitar-heavy sound has helped build a solid following through non-stop touring.

Satellite may not have a big fan base in Milwaukee, but organizers of Paxfest believe in them enough that they've decided to bring Satellite to Milwaukee to headline their annual festival that fights pediatric cancer with music. The mission of Paxfest is to raise awareness for pediatric cancer by honoring Paxton Andrews, but it also helps fund pediatric cancer research and support programs for children fighting cancer. McMorran revealed to me that he went to college to be a pediatric oncologist. Music eventually beat out medical school, but the kids that suffer still have a special place in his heart.

In addition to Satellite, Milwaukee favorites Rectifier, Ivy Spokes, SlimRox and 5 Card Studs are all scheduled to perform at Paxfest on Saturday, August 24th, at Hart Park's Rotary Performance Pavilion.

In today's Kramp Cast Steve McMorran of Satellite and I talk about Paxfest 2013, life on the road and how Satellite's debut album "Calling Birds" is a representation of a huge change in his life.
