Thank you, Trocadero. You must have read my "rants" on the need for more breakfast options in greater Downtown (here's one from 2006).

Beginning today (as Julie Lawrence told us last week) the new and improved (and smoke free) Trocadero Gastrobar, 1758 N. Water St., reopens after seven weeks of rehab, cleaning and improvements. And, for the first time since its early years Trocadero will serve weekday breakfast. Although, weekday breakfast won't begin until Mon., April 12.

Late last year, the Diablos Rojos Restaurant Group made the decision to overhaul the physical space after nine years of heavy volume had taken its toll on floors, walls and fixtures.

Trocadero now features a new bar and dining room, an enhanced gardens area and an entirely different menu. And, to this breakfast guy's delight, the restaurant is now open seven days per week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Of course, the group also is bringing back its popular weekend brunch.

As for the menu, it's new and funky.  The French-theme is gone and now it's now Sammies N' Burgers, Social Situations (15 different appitizers from Jerk Shrimp Skewers to Killer Guac) and several "Big Hunger Plan" items like Hitachino braised beef and Japanese Zingfish.

As for "my breakfast," Johnny Cakes, the tasty Mrs. Crock crossiant, an Americana, breakfast tacos and much more are featured on the new menu.

"The changes are pretty dramatic," said co-owner Mike Eitel. "We are ready to make our customers' experience even better for the next ten years."

Another change you may have noticed is the new sign. It's big, bold and bright.

Other locations of Diablos Rojos Restaurant Group include Café Centraal in Bay View, Café Hollander on Downer Ave. and Café Hollander in the Tosa Village.
