My kids and I have accidentally stumbled upon the Artist Working In Education (AWE) Truck Studio at numerous festivals and parks over the years and always enjoyed the experience. The Truck Studio is a mobile art program that will travel to 19 Milwaukee parks and playgrounds from June 27 to Aug. 5.

Eighteen professional artists and art educators take turns driving one of the four brightly colored vans to a destination where they set up a temporary, outdoor studio. Kids are invited – for free – to partake in the artistic endeavor of the day, which could be anything from sculpture to wearable art to painting.

Most projects are based on cross-cultural art forms that appeal to children and adults. In addition, art themes are typically linked to famous artists, techniques or innovations to educate children about the endless possibilities of the art world.

The Truck Studio is a drop-in program; no registration is necessary. They are in operation from 1 to 4 p.m. at all of the following locations. Here is a schedule of where the trucks will be this summer. Hope to see you there.
