We went to Sake Tumi last night to participate in Downtown Dining Week and because we never went there before. It was a wonderful experience, from start to finish.

The environment is sleek but still warm. Kind of like the sake we ordered.

As part of Downtown Dining Week, special four-course dinners were available for $20 each. We received miso soup, an appetizer (we picked gyoza dumplings and a seaweed salad called hiyashi wakame), a 10-piece maki roll and green tea ice cream for dessert.

The sushi was some of the best I’ve had. It was extremely fresh and presented beautifully. The combination of soft and crunchy, the various sauces and drizzles and the large portions were all a treat.

The Godzilla maki roll was our favorite and packed with tempura shrimp, avocado, cucumber, scallions and cream cheese. The firefly was similar but made with tempura salmon.

The service was impeccable and, according to my male dining partner, there’s a fish tank in the men’s room. Yes.

After dinner, we stopped in at The Belmont Tavern, 734 N. Jefferson St., and thoroughly enjoyed this place as well. The "garage doors" were wide open, the barkeep was truly engaging and there was live music.

However, the best part of last night was seeing, once again, that Milwaukee Street is a vision of what all of Brew City could be: a bustling, diverse and modern destination. I'm going to make a point of getting over there more often.
