Francisco Montenegro and Jose Jimenez will open Restaurante La Salsa in the old Taqueria Azteca space, 119 E. Oklahoma Ave., in April or May.

I stopped by today and spoke with numerous workers who were replacing the tiles on the front stairs and working on the space which is freshly painted in red and green but still under construction.

Montenegro also owns Taqueria La Salsa, 1105 W. Lincoln Ave., in the Lincoln Village neighborhood.

The restaurant will have a "large menu" with most items under $12. It will specialize in parrilladas, a Mexican dish for one or two featuring a mix of meats and vegetables cooked over an open fire.

Stay tuned to OnMilwaukee.com for a full review of Restaurante La Salsa after it opens.
