The Blue Tomato Cafe, 2215 E. North Ave., will soon open inside the Clock Tower Building, just east of Jalisco's. The plan, at this point, is to open on Oct. 11.

"We hope to open then, but it depends on contractors," says co-owner Mitch Prejbeanu.

Prejbeanu says the Blue Tomato will serve healthy breakfasts, lunches and "early dinners" partially made from locally-sourced food.

"We're going to make it to the farmers' markets as much as possible," says Prejbeanu.

The Blue Tomato will serve salads, soups, sandwiches, breakfast foods, smoothies, Anodyne coffee drinks and a daily hot-dish special.

Mizu Japanese Hibachi Express Noodle House -- call it "Mizu" for short -- opened its doors on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Mizu, 1828 N. Farwell Ave., features dine-in, take-out and delivery service. (Delivery sushi!)

It is owned by mother / son team Michael Weng and Ming Luo who own Chopstix, a Chinese restaurant located a few doors to the south of Mizu.

Prices at Mizu -- which used to be a George Webb restaurant -- are affordable, with six-piece maki and sushi rolls ranging from $3.75 to $5.25 and most entrees between $7-10.

The edamame lacked flavor (perhaps not enough salt in the boiling water?) as did the vegetable rolls. However, the misu soup was very good, with nice-sized chunks of tofu. Tempura, teriyaki, hibachi dishes and a variety of noodle dishes are also on the menu.
