Hello, I’m Victor DeLorenzo and I'd like to ask you to please give my new column, "Showoff with Victor DeLorenzo," a look-see when it debuts next month, right here on OnMilwaukee.com.
Once a month, I’ll give you an unfiltered glimpse into the comings and goings of my mind: memories, facts and fiction, photos and watercolors, and all the things I never thought I'd say.
I’ll try to keep the truth involved as much as possible, but what the hell, sometimes I may stray for dramatic effect or personal amusement!
I invite you to suspend your life for a moment and join me as I open mine to you.

When I started to play the drum set some 40-odd years ago, I never thought that someday I'd be standing up to earn my living as a professional. Drummers didn't stand up to perform. Standing to play wasn't allowed, or so I thought at the time.

It was my birthday and I was rehearsing lines for a play about Oscar Wilde. I got a call from my father saying that my mother had died. He had been worried that she was sleeping late and went into her room to check on her. He said that when he touched her, "she was so cold." She had a smile on her face and an old Violent Femmes T-shirt on. She had the last laugh.
