Here's some music for Milwaukee jazz fans' ears: DownBeat released its Jazz Venue Guide - a compilation of the year's top clubs from around the globe - with two Cream City locales making the grade: The Jazz Estate and the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts.
Gibraltar, a Walker's Point jazz club owned by musician Evan Christian, hosted an intimate soft opening last night. It will open to the public tonight with a performance by "gypsy jazz" band Milwaukee Hot Club.
There was a time when Milwaukee had venues that hosted jazz gigs all the time. One of them, The Jazz Gallery, is catalogued in a new book by the club's owner Chuck LaPaglia. Get a peek at this great bit of Milwaukee music history at an event Friday, Dec. 2.
Walker's Point might welcome its third jazz club later this year if Kimberly Turner-Vergara has her way. Turner-Vergara applied for a license to open Michai's Quiet Storm Smooth Jazz Lounge in the former Rumor Upbeat Lounge at 161 S. 1st St.
