"Pixels" is Sandler's best movie in years ... but it still sucks

The following statement is praise so faint that it could function as a dog whistle, but "Pixels" feels like the closest an Adam Sandler project has come to resembling an actual movie in years. But before we begin the celebrate "Pixels" for clearing the bar loftily set on the floor by the likes of "Blended" and the duo of "Grown Ups" movies, this is still a modern Adam Sandler movie - AKA it's still an unfunny and lazy exercise in Sandler self-appreciation.

I have a habit of perhaps getting a bit long-winded with some of my reviews (if I'm going to say someone's million-dollar creation is or is not worth $10 and two hours of your time, however, I feel the need to explain myself in full). So let me put my feelings toward "Grown Ups 2" as clearly and as upfront as possible. Don't. See. This. Movie.
