Digging deep into "Testa Rosa III"

Last month, Milwaukee's Testa Rosa launched its third full-length LP - and a 7" 45, too - and I asked the duo to share their thoughts on the CD's songs, which appear below, alongside Blexrud-Strigens lyrics, which have the rare distinction among rock and roll lyrics of reading as well in print as they sound when sung.

With its blend of rock, funk and hip-hop, Little Blue Crunchy Things drew a rabid young following. Though the band split up in 2000 it reunites every once in a while and does so again this weekend for a 9 p.m. show Saturday. Cover is $12.

Four years ago Testa Rosa -- which at that point was a trio -- released one of the best jangly pop records Milwaukee has ever gushed forth. Four years later -- with a fourth member and the pressure off another -- the band's second record is here and it's still catchy pop.


The Cocksmiths set sights on WAMIs

Rising from the ashes of Milwaukee acts such as Little Blue Crunchy Things and Big Dumb Dick, The Cocksmiths are Milwaukee's most dangerous rock band. They're set to perform at the WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) showcase at the Miramar Theater on Saturday, Jan. 21.


'Tis the season for a Little Blue reunion

Little Blue Crunchy Things have (temporarily) reunited and are making their way back to their old stomping grounds, Shank Hall, for a show on Thursday, Dec. 22. Freshwater Collins opens the $10 show.
