During the great Downtown reinvention of the '80s, dozens of buildings disappeared from the heart of Milwaukee. One year, the Mint Bar vanished too. 31 years after its demolition, there's no evidence the Mint Bar even existed. And that's a damn shame.

When Michael Anderson moved back to Milwaukee from Atlanta last year, he was blown away by the changes here. The Third Ward was booming with bustle and business but something less energizing had changed about the North Side, too. There were no longer any black gay bars or clubs.

La Cage Niteclub, 801 S. 2nd St., recently went into foreclosure and a public auction will be held on March 27, 2017.

Hamburger Mary's - a gay-themed and LGBTQ-friendly burger chain, bar and performance venue - moved from its purple Bay View building to the former La Perla space in Walker's Point. Recently, OnMilwaukee stopped in for burgers and milkshakes.

To support LGBTQ prisoners in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee chapter of Black and Pink will hold an event at Cactus Club on Feb. 23, with local musicians, poets and formerly incarcerated speakers gathering for a night of fundraising, book collection and community building.
