Milwaukee County Historical Society is taking its "Brew City" beer history show on the road, sort of, by opening a mini-museum just down the street in the former Applebee's near the main entrance of The Shops of Grand Avenue. Brew City MKE opens on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m.

Lately, I've been nosing around old houses in Milwaukee. I mean, really old houses. This time, we go inside the oldest surviving Milwaukee house: Benjamin Church House, begun in 1843 on 4th and Court Streets, across from where Golda Meir School now stands.

Milwaukee County Historical Society opens "Melodies and Memories: 200 Years of Milwaukee Music" this week at the museum, 910 N. Old World 3rd St. The show, which fills both levels of the building, spotlights two centuries of music and runs through April.

Starting Jan. 11, the Milwaukee County Historical Society, 910 N. Old World Third St., will be drenched in beer. Beer history, that is. The museum hosts "Brew City MKE: Craft, Culture, Community," a comprehensive look at brewing and beer in Milwaukee from 1840 to the present.
