Last time we met up with the Milwaukee-based band The Sleepwalkers, its members lived in Oshkosh and the band had a longer name. Now, with one more member and three fewer words in its name, The Sleepwalkers make their home in Brew City. We caught up with frontman Ian Olvera as the quartet prepares to launch its new disc, "Lost My Mind in Stereo," at a gig in Riverwest.

Recently, we talked with singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Davies about his solo disc, "Wish Peak." That record's intimacy was notable but it would be an error to think that words that describe Davies' solo output would also apply to the work of his band the Thriftones.

Known for their tin can microphone, shiny tuba, eclectic instrumentation--which ranges from a typewriter to a customized whirring vibraphone--and, most importantly, lead singer Daniel Bullock's thoughtful, incisive lyrics. The Scarring Party's songs have roots in the early days of radio jazz, but the tone is more foreboding, as if one was being stalked by guard dogs in a French walled city while on the way to a burlesque show in Hell. Equal parts exciting, unnerving, and devious.

With an EP under its belt, the still-young Milwaukee band Herman Astro has already made a name for itself here at home. Now, a full-length disc, "Chico," is out and Herman Astro is ready to ramp up.

Four years ago Testa Rosa -- which at that point was a trio -- released one of the best jangly pop records Milwaukee has ever gushed forth. Four years later -- with a fourth member and the pressure off another -- the band's second record is here and it's still catchy pop.
