Back in the '80s and '90s, Smart Studios - despite its looks on the outside - was one of the most influential places in the Wisconsin music industry, drawing bands like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. Unfortunately, 28 years after starting up, Smart Studios closed its doors in 2010. However, its legacy still lives on, and filmmaker Wendy Schneider wants to make sure of that.

It all started in Neenah, when a 13-year-old Justin Perkins set up an eight-track recording system in his basement. Twelve years and three bands later, he's fast becoming one of Wisconsin's most wanted studio engineers.
