Last year, OnMilwaukee reported that Karate America Brookfield, Pewaukee and Menomonee Falls raised $19,000 to purchase everything on the Milwaukee VA Medical Center's wish list from a local Target.

This year, Karate America has raised its goal and hopes to raise $40,000 in order to cross everything off the list.

"I was deeply moved by the items that our veterans were wishing for: things like socks and underwear," says Kyle Mealy of Karate America. "Not what you'd think would be on a 'wish list.'"

To help raise this amount of money, families and individuals are encouraged to purchase boards.  Later, they can attend an event where they are taught by professionals how to break them. Instructors will also do board-breaking demos.

"So, they literally 'knock out' the VA wish list by raising money and it all ends in that epic Target shopping spree," says Mealy.
