This morning, the Wisconsin State Fair announced the winning poster and artist for its first Fairtastic Poster Art Competition. After careful deliberation, the title of "Grand Champion Artist" went to Larry Schultz of Milton and his poster design.
Schultz was one of three finalists – along with Christopher Maury and James Steeno, both of Milwaukee – selected in February from a pool of 28 competition entrants. The three artists then had to complete a final, full-color draft of their poster, reflecting the "Wisconsin State Fair experience." The five-judge panel reviewed the entries Thursday, eventually landing on Schultz and his poster as the winning duo.
"I’m thrilled for the opportunity to showcase the passion and excitement I have for the Wisconsin State Fair through my art," Schultz said in a release. "It’s an honor to be named Grand Champion Artist of the first Fairtastic Poster Competition."
Schultz's work, however, is not quite done. He will have two months to finalize the final poster design, which will be revealed June 11. Upon completion, Schultz will receive his $1,000 prize.
The poster will be displayed throughout the Wisconsin State Fair, as well as featured on a commemorative poster and postcard available for purchase online and during the Fair. All proceeds will support the Wisconsin State Fair Park Foundation.
The Fair starts July 31 and runs through Aug. 10.
