This month’s Steinhafels "Before and After" is one of our most dramatic transformations yet! The setting is a modest family home in Whitefish Bay, and as you’ll see, some relatively simple changes made a world of difference from start to finish.

Jenii Kluver is an interior designer based in our Oak Creek store. As you can see on Jenii’s Decorating Solutions Profile page, she has done some impressive design projects. We especially like this one because it’s very relatable to homeowners today. Andrew and Laurie are an older couple, and they love where they live. Rather than moving, they wanted to create a new look for their home.

Jenii explains, "They knew that they would be removing their carpeting and repainting, but they weren’t sure of much else. Their main concern was keeping the traditional style of the furniture to match the character of their home, but giving it a more updated and modern flair."

Before

Jenii’s goal: To brighten the space and give them a completely different configuration to open up the living room, and give the couple the total transformation they’re looking for.

Let’s take you through the project via pictures!

After

The custom Bentley sectional by King Hickory seemed to fit perfectly in their space. It gave them the greatest amount of seating without being overwhelming. My favorite feature is their Magnolia Homes rug – the color and pattern are the perfect balance of traditional and modern to fit the space. The tables are also a great balance of the two styles and give plenty of open storage.
I wanted to pick out light patterns for the sectional and accent pillows, so the choices were a no-brainer. King Hickory has a great selection of colors and patterns. The smaller sized side table fit perfectly in the space, which includes a closet on the other side.
I wanted to offset the sectional with two accent chairs on the other side of the room. I kept them in the same style as the sofa, so that they didn’t sit too high past the window, but also took up the space proportionally. I also wanted to use a larger-sized pattern so it didn’t overwhelm my clients, and I liked the light background to keep the space bright. I used one ottoman instead of two to reduce clutter, and a larger end table in the middle of the chairs for easy access.
This dining room is the perfect gathering place. Since they wanted to keep their chair rail, I decided that painting the top and bottom of the walls in a slight contrast would give it a purpose without having to do something drastic. I then decided that doing a two toned Daniel’s Amish table would carry the effect into the middle of the room. Another Magnolia Homes rug in the dining space tied the two rooms together, while also giving a subtle splash of color.
My clients liked having an extra cabinet in the corner of their dining space for extra storage, so I brought this blue cabinet in to give them just that! I also tied in the pop of blue that carries through both of the spaces. The antique clock on top of the cabinet helps to tie in the styling of their personal artwork that hangs directly above it.

The couple couldn’t be more pleased with the finished product! In their testimonial, they exclaimed, "Jenii did a wonderful job designing our home’s new look. It’s like we have a brand house and didn’t even have to move! We feel we can depend on Jenii — she has great follow-through. Steinhafels stands behind its product, and we got more than we expected!"

We are so happy you love your "new" home Andrew and Laurie!
