Takeru Kobayashi, the Babe Ruth of competitive eating, scarfed down a record 58 brats in 10 minutes to win the Johnsonville World Bratwurst Eating Championship Saturday in Sheboygan.

"They're good," Kobayashi, 27, said through an interpreter. "I want to take some home."

Kobayashi, a 160-pounder who became famous as a perennial champ at the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest in New York, earned $8,000 for his victory, to go along with more than 15,000 calories and 1,500 grams of fat. Unlike the hot dog contest, participants were not required to eat buns on Saturday.

The competition was televised on tape delay by ESPN2, but was bumped from its original starting time because the NFL Hall of Fame induction ran long. The contest could air on ESPN at a later date.
