Summerfest officials today announced Tool will headline the July 4 performance at the Marcus Amphitheater during the 40th Summerfest.

The American progressive rock band Tool was formed in 1990 in Los Angeles by lead singer Maynard James Keenan.  The two-time Grammy winners, whose success has been credited to a complex and ever-evolving distinct sound, bring their 2007 tour to Milwaukee to rock the Amphitheater on Independence Day.

Tool received immediate recognition for their first commercial release “Opiate” in 1992, and 1993’s follow-up “Undertow” is certified double-platinum.  Tool’s sixth and latest record, “10,000 Days,” was released in April 2006 and secured itself the top spot on the Billboard charts its opening week. The first single released, “Vicarious,” was nominated for a 2007 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.

Tickets go on sale at noon Saturday, May 5, and will be available for $57.50 (reserved seats), $47.50 (reserved bleachers), and $30 (lawn).  This price includes Summerfest admission and facility fees.
