Shortly before the Brewers' playoff dream evaporated Friday night, extending the club's streak of not making the playoffs since 1982, a more obscure streak came to an end:

A fan ran on the field.

That was the first time that happened this season, and the security guards at Miller Park were bummed about it. While Padres right-hander Greg Maddux was facing Brewers leadoff man Rickie Weeks in the first inning, the fan ran toward home plate and was tackled by the men in red.

Sources said that the fan, like others before him, was stunned to discover that he was not merely going to be handed a ticket and walked to the exit. He was locked into a police paddy wagon and driven to jail.

"That tends to sober them up pretty fast," a security employee said Saturday.
