I peeked into the recently relocated Crank Daddy's bike shop and was really impressed with the new digs.

Formerly located just a block away at 2108 N. Farwell Ave., the new spot is open for business in a beautiful new showroom at 2170 N. Prospect Ave.

The space, formerly occupied by the Alterra bakery and, prior to that, the Salvation Army, has undergone a complete transformation. Giant windows, covered bike parking and patio seating really gave the place an inviting feel.

I think the shop's proximity to the Prospect Alterra location, as well as stores like Urban Outfitters and American Apparel, should help to draw in more casual cyclists, and will certainly be an improvement over what felt like a commercial island at the other spot.

While the staff is still busy lugging stock over from the old store, and some things are still boxed up, the shop is officially open for business. A grand re-opening event is being planned for mid-May but I'd suggest stopping in before then. You'll be impressed.
