Got big feet?

Hey, it's nothing to be embarrassed of, especially if you're tall -- it pretty much comes with the territory.

At six feet tall, Kathryn Kerrigan turned her frustration of not being able to find fashionable shoes in large sizes into a booming business.

Kathryn Kerrigan Footwear is so booming, in fact, that Inc.com recently named her the "No.1 Female Entrepreneur Under 30 in America."

She's done her research and found that more than 30 percent of women's footwear is purchased in sizes 9+ and most shoe factories stop production at size 10 or 11. Handcrafted in Italy, her designs are the latest footwear options for tall women and are worn by WNBA athletes and professional models and actresses, she says.

Kerrigan is making an appearance in Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 16 to tell her story. She'll be at Decibel / Deep Bar, 1905 E. North Ave., for the Fall Fascination Fashion Show, which run from 8 to 10:30 p.m.

Julie Lawrence Special to OnMilwaukee.com

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.

As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
