After living here for 20 years, I would think I'd have a handle on the best parks in the city, yet Lakeshore State Park came as a surprise to me. With 22 acres of trails, picnic spots and gorgeous rocky beaches, this island park just off the coast of Summerfest is certainly a winner.
And that's not even including the incredible scenic views it offers of the city surrounding it. Here are some of the great views of our city from one of its best parks.
1. Hoan Bridge
Without a doubt, this is the best angle from which I've observed our iconic bridge.
2. Picturesque shoreline
Props to that lone kayaker who was brave enough to venture out onto the open water on a hot day with 80 percent humidity.
3. Running paths
Considering I ran into about 10 different joggers during my walk, I would say this is a good spot for a run. Not that I plan on testing that theory myself.
4. Lookout Point
These benches offer the perfect place to eat some lunch, take a rest or simply just observe Lake Michigan.
5. Downtown
Last, but certainly not least, the view this park is known for: the gorgeous – and now growing – Milwaukee skyline. I can't wait to see what it looks like next time I drop by.
