MADISON -- Penn State coach Joe Paterno made the cable highlight shows earlier this season when he had to leave the sideline with a case of "the runs."

He wasn't running Saturday.

Paterno, 79, was carted off the field after suffering a knee injury during the second half of his team's 13-3 loss to Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.

Freshman tight end Andrew Quarless caught a pass for a first down near the Nittany Lions' sideline and fell into Paterno's left leg. Paterno, 79, fell to the ground. Moments later, he was helped to the bench, where he received medical attention. Paterno left the field shortly before the end of the third quarter and Penn State officials said he flew back to State College, Pa., to undergo medical tests.

"I told him he's not playing the low blocks like he used to," Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley told reporters after the game. "He's a wily old rascal. He's not going anywhere unless he has to. He's pretty tough."
