Milwaukee's best lounge, 2009: At Random
"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee.com is back for another round! The whole month of February, we're serving up intoxicatingly fun bars and club articles -- including guides, unique features, drink recipes and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!
The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Bars & Clubs, 2009. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
When Milwaukeeans feel like lounging, they have plenty of options, as demonstrated by this survey (there were more than 20 choices).
Competition may be stiff, but OnMilwaukee.com readers have little trouble singling out their favorite in the category: At Random.
It's one of our city's classic lounges. Others have tried and failed to imitate its vintage mystique, kitschy charm and decadent, over-the-top frou-frou drinks.
If you're looking for a pint of craft beer -- or even a Miller Lite -- you'll be sorely disappointed. At Random doesn't do beer; it's way too working class. This Bay View landmark is better suited for a romantic night out, a secret rendezvous (it won in that category as well) or a special occasion for which sipping Scotch is required.
Go ahead, indulge. Just call first; hours often seem to be as random as its name suggests.

Martini Mikes? Really? this place honestly makes my skin crawl. Has anyone else noticed it gets increasingly seedy?

Looks like they agreed with the readers on brew pub and live music so far.
Do OnMilwaukee.com's editors just feel the need to be contrarians to whatever their readers vote for? I don't think they've agreed with a pick yet.
