Maybe it's the vast beer selection, maybe it's the top-notch bar food. Maybe it's a little bit of both. |

The votes are in and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best: Eat & Drink, 2007. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all month long in the Bars and Clubs section of OnMilwaukee.com.
For the last several years, readers of OnMilwaukee.com have narrowly voted the venerable Major Goolsby's as Milwaukee's best sports bar. But this year, Hooligan's Super Bar, 2017 E. North Ave., took top honors, an award it also won for best bar food.
It's easy to see why so many Milwaukeeans picked Hoolie's: watching the big game at this East Side landmark is a slightly more refined experience that what you get at some of the area's more traditional sports bars. Downstairs, TVs line the bar, and upstairs the action centers mostly around one big TV (not the biggest of all time, but big enough).
Maybe it's the vast beer selection, maybe it's the top-notch bar food. Maybe it's a little bit of both.
Meanwhile, the editors at OnMilwaukee.com picked the Highbury Pub, 2322 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., a lesser-known but equally cool place to watch the game, especially if soccer is your sport of choice. Owner Joe Katz takes his sport fanaticism seriously here, and it's one of very few places in Milwaukee to show those games you just don't get on cable or satellite.
OnMilwaukee.com's editors' choice: The Highbury Pub
Runners-up:
2. Major Goolsby's
3. Zim's

8. BBC
9. Steve's on Bluemound
10. GameTime

While I do enjoy taking in a game at Hooligans, I would not put them in my top 10 in Milwaukee. My favreorite sports bar would have to be...hmmm, i'll have to think about this actually.

I, too, agree. Hooligan's is NOT a sports bar -- it's a super bar. Something definitely got mixed up on the criteria for this survey. Note: it is a d*mn fine bar, though. It has the cleanest beer lines in Milwaukee (as noted from a fairly recent Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article).

i 2nd the SPORTS BAR comment...hoolies is not a sports bar at all....sure they have the game on, but y does that make it a "sports bar?" when a normal person thinkks "sports bar" you might think of Champs, goolsbys, zims, karma even, but hooligans?!?! its teeny, no HD tv's, no huge tv's, satellite? do they even have a nfl pass or mlb ticket? who knows? gr8 food, but not a sports bar

so a "sports bar" is any bar that turns the game on while you're there? i know the definition of what is a sports bar can be vague, but i also know that Hooligans is NOT one. no satelite? sorry, you're outta luck. did they even have the badger/ohio state game on? look. the food IS good and the trivia IS fun, but the ability to simply turn on espn at anytime does NOT make you a sports bar. shame on OMC for not setting better guidelines.
