The PBR silo is one beast of a beer can. Save room. |

I've long been a PBR fan and was thrilled when The Pabst and Riverside Theaters started selling $3 Tallboy cans at shows. To me, the 16-oz. cans were a steal for a mere $3, especially when you're used to paying twice that for less beer at other venues.
Just when I thought it really couldn't get any better than that, I went on a little road trip. While in Iowa City last weekend, my friends and I sat down at a restaurant called The Mill prior to a concert at the nearby Picador. I made a quick run to the bathroom and when I retuned to the table, one of my pals told me she'd ordered me a can of Pabst.
When the waitress brought it, I laughed out loud as she set it in front of me. It was no 12-oz. can -- not even a Tallboy. This bad boy was a whopping 24 ounces, the equivalent of two normal cans all crammed into one ridiculously tall and girthy cylinder.
"They're called silos," the waitress said in obvious response to my surprise. I'd never seen anything like it.
The glory of it all? It was only $3.
Anybody know if silos are available in Milwaukee?

lol...yeah. My initial comment had BEER SNOB written in HTML-ish tags, in true nerd (redneck though, c'mon :D ) style. So maybe that is why it didn't post

Southern...I'm sorry if I made some assumptions about you. I was in a rather sour mood this morning. However, generalizing PBR as just a "hipster" beer is rather absurd. I like good beer as much as you (big fan of Rogue and most Great Lakes amoung others) but if I'm trying to stretch my dollar (or trying to increase my rate of consumption to prep for a Brewer game), I prefer to reach for a PBR. Obviously its not as tasty as my favorite micro but it sure beats Miller Lite, Bud Light, etc.

Ouch! I will be the first to admit I am a beer/wine/food/coffee snob (which was in my post but got edited out for some reason). But I prefer connoisseur or Epicurean. Rabid- I don't drink corp. (or crap) beer aka fermented rice/corn water. Here is what I have had lately that I really liked... Furthermore Thermorefur, 3 Feet Deep (my fav from them) & their Knotstock is outstanding! New Glarus Iced Barley Wine, Coffee Stout, Uff-Da Bock & sometimes Fat Squirrel when I want to have more than a few (great session beer). They also do a great Belgian style ale called Stone Soup. Lakefront has some good offerings but I feel like most of their beers are dumbed down for people like you Rabid46..whatever. However I DO like their Big Easy Maibock...lots. Sprecher has some good brews as well but like Lakefront, I think they are dumbed down for the masses. Try their Winter Ale...nah don't, you probably won't like it because you can't see through it. I tried a beer from the Twin Cities last night that was really good too. Summit Winter Ale. I also like Belgian beers. Except Stella. What is the big deal? The stemware it is served in? I don't get the appeal. ( & yes I know Belgian beers all have specific stemware they are supposed to be served in) I go for quality not quantity. Sandstorm- "Redneck attitude in a nerd." I like that. Do we know each other? If so, hell if not, let me buy you a GOOD beer sometime. :D
