There will soon be more collaborative beer in Milwaukee, thanks to the formation of the new Lowlands Brewing Collaborative, an initiative that aims to bring the world’s best brewers together in a celebration of "bier culture."
Based on the success of Lowlands Brewing company – a partnership between Milwaukee’s Lowlands Restaurant Group and Brouwerij Van Steenberge in Ertvelde, Belgium – founded in 2011, the group has announced plans to expand its collaborations to include both local and international breweries.
"We love bier," says Dan Herwig, Lowlands’ director of brand and marketing, "and when we travel around the world looking for new biers to offer, we run into like-minded people who become fast friends. The Collaborative was founded to give our friends – who just happened to be world-class brewers – a platform to express their craft."
The launch of the collaborative begins with a new beer, Hollander IPA, brewed in collaboration with Brouwerij The Musketeers, in Ursel, Belgium. The beer, which will appeal to both hop-heads and Belgian malt lovers contains American hops, but is brewed in Belgium.
The beer is available exclusively at Lowlands’ Grand Cafes.
On tap next for the collaborative is a partnership with Central Waters Brewing, located in Amherst, in Portage County. Central Waters will craft a quadrupel-style bier for the collaborative scheduled for release later this fall.

In 2024, Lori was honored with a "Top 20 Women in Hospitality to Watch" award by the Wisconsin Restaurant Association.
When she’s not eating, photographing food, writing or planning for TV and radio spots, you’ll find Lori seeking out adventures with her husband Paul, traveling, cooking, reading, learning, snuggling with her cats and looking for ways to make a difference.
