Rock Bottom sign gets its glow back

The red glow from Milwaukee's Rock Bottom Brewery is a fixture and a bit of an icon Downtown. The Colorado-based restaurant and brew pub has made itself one of Milwaukee's most popular Downtown dining and drinking destinations with its Riverwalk spot, patio and ever-glowing and classic signage.

But, the prime time sign has had a tough winter. On and off throughout the last few months, the signature sign has been dark for nearly three weeks.

Don't fear, though. This Downtown glow should be back soon.

"They (the letters) were taken out by falling ice and cost a small fortune to replace, which should take a few more weeks," General Manager Ryan Hartman said in an e-mail.

And, hopefully, the coming soon spring will keep the ice away until next winter. Before we know it, we'll once again be drinking and eating under the glow of the Rock Bottom sign.

I am still questioning if this place is going to stay open for much longer. On several visits there have been things that needed repair (bathrooms a big one). And the quality of food and service has gone down too. I think they're just waiting for the lease to expire.
