What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published Feb. 18, 2009 at 6:07 p.m.

As much as I enjoy poking fun at it, I still do occasionally watch Milwaukee's local TV news. I bounce around from station to station, though I pretty much -- and for no reason in particular -- skip Channel 58.

Honestly, I don't count on local TV news to keep me in the loop, but if I'm home at 6 p.m., I'll check it out.

Apparently, however, I haven't been paying enough attention lately.

The other day I was surfing around Wikipedia and I stumbled upon the pages of our local stations. Each one listed current and former talent, and I found myself surprised to find that some of these reporters have been off the air in Milwaukee for some time.

For example, did you know that these people are no longer on Milwaukee airwaves?

WTMJ-TV:

  • Silvia Acevedo
  • Paul Zandt
  • David Marcus
  • Vivian King

WITI-TV:

  • Chris Goodman
  • Joanne Williams
  • Julie Feldman
  • Peter Linton-Smith

Well, that shows what I know. I'm sure the list of reporters who've left Milwaukee, by choice or otherwise, is much longer, but I don't exactly know where to search for that info.

It all seems rather hush-hush, doesn't it? Maybe it's because these reporters went away so quickly, without elaborate "Mike Gousha / Jerry Taff style" farewell tributes. Or maybe these reporters didn't make that much of an impact on me in the first place.

Usually I've got a pretty good eye for detail when it comes to the media. But apparently, it's a revolving door at our local TV stations, and these departures went right over my head.

Ha ha ha. Look at the talking heads gettin' all hot under the collar! Maybe the writer was just 30 years younger than your average viewer and actually consulted real news sources instead of getting "American Idol" updates presented as news.

How soon we forget! Or maybe you were just not paying as much attention as the viewers who emailed, wrote or called me when I announced my retirement from WITI FOX6 in November. After 29 years at FOX6, a wonderful opportunity came along to become the Vice-President of Public Relations and Marketing at Cardinal Stritch University. That is where you can find me now. Check out the Stritch website and go to the archived news releases.

Julie Feldman here. I am now supervising producer of the Lifetime Network health show called Health Corner. It's shot around the country and put together here. I read comments below. Have to say, all of the tv personalities mentioned are good people who gave you their best effort.

dvm - you meant to say Bart Adrien or all of the Channel 4 newscast - they are just over the top ridiculous. And we please get one local channel to broadcast their news in HD ??

I thought local news consisted of Weather Watches for 4 inches of snow over a 36 hour period, dirty restaurants, and what a small dog wears for the day. Plus, people here are saying that they cover crime AND the Packers? What next?
