This morning, Mayfair sent out an press release update on its current redevelopment, noting progress is "well underway." The finished product will add two first-in-state retailers – Nordstrom and The Container Store – new inline retail spaces and a two-level parking deck on the east side of the building.

According to the release, exterior work – including excavation and utility relocation – has begun on the 30,000 cubic yards of space that will be home to Nordstrom and its parking lot. Clearing and grading has also begun for the parking structure, which will provide 665 new parking stalls for Mayfair shoppers approximately in time for the 2014 holiday season.

The parking structure will land between the current Boston Store and the impending full-line, three-level Nordstrom in the southeast portion of Mayfair. The new development will also include an architectural remodeling of the mall's southeast quadrant, featuring a two-level open corridor that will connect the mall to the new Nordstrom and provide space for 12-15 additional retailers.

Meanwhile, The Container Store – the leading specialty retailer of storage and organizational products in the country – will open its first Wisconsin location on the southeast corner of the mall property, nearest to the North Avenue entrance on 104th Street. The store is scheduled to open in spring 2015.

The construction means that parking on the east side of Mayfair will be temporarily rerouted to the mall's other various parking lots and decks.
