A Sister City agreement between Milwaukee and the Indonesian city of Medan will be signed during a special ceremony this week in the third floor Council Chamber and Anteroom at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, and will feature Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Medan Mayor Dzulmi Eldin.

Ald. Joe Davis, Sr., chair of the City of Milwaukee’s Sister Cities Committee, said he’s excited that Milwaukee will consummate a Sister Cities International agreement with the Medan, Indonesia.

"This agreement will most certainly be mutually beneficial for the citizens of Milwaukee and the citizens of the Indonesian City of Medan, and it’s truly special to be able to host our guests and have the official signing take place in the Council Chamber," he said.

Milwaukee is officially affiliated with Sister Cities International, a program with more than 50 years of promoting people-to-people diplomacy. As a result, Milwaukee’s city-to-city relationships, including former friendship cities and unofficial sister cities, are now moving forward. Carora, Venezuela; Galway, Ireland; Morogoro, Tanzania and uMhlathuze, South Africa are Milwaukee’s current Sister Cities.
