Summerfest to alter beer operation for 2010
Summerfest has not announced its beer prices for 2010, but there will be a somewhat significant change at the stands this season.
Major Goolsby's, which has run the beer concession at the festival grounds for the past five years, is no longer handling the operation.
Sources close to the situation said Summerfest has decided to take the business in-house and will hire the nearly 1,000 bartenders, beer haulers and stand managers necessary to keep the suds flowing.
Neither Summerfest President Don Smiley nor Tracy Spoerl, director of concessions for Milwaukee World Festival, were available for comment Tuesday morning.
Stay tuned for more developments on this story.

How about try allowing some vendors who produce a better product and not raping them with their fees. I have heard summerfest charges up to 33% commission to its vendors. How is anyone supposed to make any money if everything is so overpriced? How much will beer be there now Don Smiley will be in charge, $10 a cup. So sad the festival which was supposed to be about Milwaukee is now about only $$$$$$

Goolsby's was great at what they did -- ran a tight ship and kept patrons happy. Darn shame they won't be running the operation in '10.

If they could get decent beer (besides Lakefront) and some new food vendors, that would be an improvement. This, i'm not so sure about.

While this may or may not be good, the most vital thing is keep Jo Jo's Martini Lounge doing what it's doing ! (Keep Chipolte's burritos close by an added plus)
