Milwaukee's best burger, 2010: Sobelman's

The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.

This one was no contest.

With 25 percent of the vote, defending champion Sobelman's easily ran away with the title for Milwaukee's Best Burger, finishing well ahead of top challengers A.J. Bombers and Kopp's.

The Menomonee Valley burger bar has long been a favorite among Milwaukeeans of all walks of life, be it businessmen and women, Marquette students, politicians or tourists, have packed Dave and Melanie Sobelman's establishment at 1900 W. St. Paul Ave. over the years to dig into the delicious treats -- a major reason why Sobelman's Web site is milwaukeesbestburgers.com.

OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Milwaukee Brat House

Runners-up:

2. A.J. Bombers
3. Kopp's
4. Elsa's on the Park
5. Stack'd
6. Mazo's
7. Major Goolsby's
8. Wicked Hop
9. The Knick
10. Miller Time Pub

Sobelmans and Kopps are both definitely coasting on rep. Bombers is good. Solly's is awesome. RIP Grecian Delight as their burger was top notch. Goolsby's burger with the slice of ham on top is awesome. Culver's is very good for a chain.

Having tried Sobelmans, Solly's, and AJ's, I'd agree that Sobelman's is the best of the bunch. In terms of a very close 2nd, I'd recommend 4th Base in West Allis (which didn't make the list). Much better than AJs, and also a bit better than Solly's. Bomber's offers great atmosphere, but the product simply wasn't that impressive.

I challenge any of you to head out to Fleming's at Brookfield Square on any night and try their Prime Burger for $6 from 5-7PM. You will completely forget about this list.

Northpoint doesn't even make the top ten? Has to be a conspiracy. AJ Bombers is WAAAAAY overrated, and although I like Soblemans, I think they are running purely on past reputation, as I haven't found their burgers to be that good recently.
