For the seventh straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2013."

Maxie's, 6732 W. Fairview Ave., has won the category best comfort food – expanded this year to include bar food – continuing what has a become something of a tradition in our annual Best of Dining balloting.

Maxie's once again beat out Comet (our editors' choice) by 5 percent, improving on last year’s margin slightly. Maxie’s, Comet and Honeypie have finished in the same order in the top three spots for three years in a row now. It seems our readers like the comfort of tradition, too.

Maxie's, known for its delicious, hearty southern favorites, barbecue and seafood, delivers time and time again. The Friday fish fry and the fried green tomatoes are not to be missed.

The restaurant interior is gorgeous, too, with a mix of southern comfort, jazzy vibe and classy chandeliers.

Very comfortable, indeed.
