For the eighth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Locavore, the newest restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2014."
Many great new restaurants opened in Milwaukee in the past year, but OnMilwaukee.com readers picked Bay View's Goodkind as the very best.
Rounding out the top five best new restaurants in Milwaukee, according to you, are Movida, Ardent, Cafe Bavaria and The Cheel.
One of Bay View’s most anticipated new restaurants, Goodkind -- a partnership between Chefs Paul Zerkel and Lisa Kirkpatrick, along with Burnhearts owners Jess and William (BJ) Seidel and bartender Katie Rose -- opened quietly in June.
In addition to expertly prepared food and drink, Goodkind also serves up a buzzing friendly vibe that pays homage to both the intention and potential of a restaurant collaboration at which food and drink lies at the fore.
Best new restaurant was a hotly contested category this year, with Goodkind and runner-up Movida alternating leads over the past few days. But in the end, Goodkind notched a victory by edging Movida by fewer than 10 votes.
Similarly, Justin Carlisle's acclaimed Ardent bested Lowlands Group's Cafe Bavaria, in Tosa Village, by six votes for third place.
The new Engine Company No. 3 in Walker's Point had a hold on fifth place until the last minute, but was topped by The Cheel -- which grabbed the slot by a mere three votes. Still, pretty impressive considering Engine Company was only open a few days when voting began.
