Milwaukee's best restaurant wine list, 2010: Balzac
The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2010. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Balzac, 1716 N. Arlington Pl., is a fine dining experience. The knowledgeable staff seems unfailingly happy to see you, and is helpful in offering suggestions for wine or menu items. And OnMilwaukee.com readers say Balzac has the city's best wine list.
That's certainly due to its vast, five-page wine list offering selections from the new world and the old.
Wine is served in stemless Riedel crystal, an indication that someone in the joint knows how to treat wine, and the menu offers low-priced "tastes" in case you can't make up your mind.
The bar also offers a wide range of bottled beers, draughts and martinis.
Meanwhile, the OnMilwaukee.com editorial staff is still dazed from a tour of the Dream Dance wine cellar; it has to be seen to be believed.
OnMilwaukee.com editors' choice: Dream Dance Steak
3. Dream Dance Steak
4. Eddie Martini's
5. Mo's -- A Place for Steaks
6. La Merenda
8. Water Buffalo
9. Crazy Water
10. Milwaukee ChopHouse
12. River Lane Inn
14. Osteria del Mondo
How can Dream Dance Steak be on the list? It isn't even in Milwaukee, it isn't even in Wisconsin or these United States! It is within the boundaries of the Potawatomi tribal nation.
