Who can resist that Asian slaw? |

The votes are in, and the winners have been selected for OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2008. The results of this readers' poll, including an editors' pick, are available in this series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, special features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food. Bon appetit!
For the first time in years, a new sandwich maker has stolen the crown for best in town. The Chocolate Factory's reign was long and strong, but this year OnMilwaukee.com readers voted the sandwiches at Lulu, 2261 and 2265 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., as their favorite.
Perhaps its that famous Asian slaw or homemade potato chips that accompany them that sealed the deal?
Either way, Milwaukeeans are fanatic for the pitas -- the chipotle chicken, the Mediterranean steak, the Mid-East falafel, the East Indian chicken, the hummus or the roasted vegetable. The savory melts -- Santa Fe cheddar, the Florentine and the Sicilian -- are favorites, too.
Of course, Lulu does baguettes like no other, offering seven different meat and vegetarian varieties.
Good stuff.

Gold Coast Subs are superb. You must put them on the list....you must.

This post got me to thinking about those awesome subs from Suburpia, so I went out to the Prospect and North location and picked up a Classic and a Miles Standish. Both different in taste, but both full of flavor. That chewy Italian bread with the sesame seeds makes these subs stand out from all the others. I swear Suburpia gets its bread right from a bakery.

Suburpia?!!! really? I was excited when the new one opened on Prospect....then I ate there. Flavorless. Hard bread. This was all the rage in the 70's? How high were people? overrated. I'll take Koppas..Philly Way..JJ's...Waterfront any day.

Lulu's is good stuff, but sometimes a little bland. I am surprised to not see Fuel Cafe on the list. They have some tasty sandwiches.

Mmmm, Nessun Dorma. But please add a few new sandwich sections! It's time for a menu update.
