Bon Appetit names Braise among top 50 new restaurants

Braise, 1101 S. 2nd St., been named one of the top 50 new restaurants in the country by Bon Appetit magazine.

The restaurant was noted for its Community Supported Agriculture program, as well as its status as Milwaukee's first community-supported restaurant, which allows consumers to buy shares in the restaurant in exchange for culinary classes, dining rewards and other perks.

Recommended eats include duck confit and blue cheese flatbread with arugula pistou, and olive oil-braised vegetables with horseradish cream.

The list, compiled by writer Andrew Knowlton, a.k.a. the BA Foodist, also includes Chicago's Balena and Yusho, along with Minneapolis's The Bachelor Farmer, which has been recently acclaimed for its traditional Scandinavian offerings.

According to Bon Appetit, Knowlton will choose his first annual "Hot 10" list, as well as his pick for the top new restaurant in America, from among the 50 restaurants on Aug. 14.
