Founded by Lois and Alan Margolet in 1976 in Delaware, Capriotti's Sandwich Shop now has numerous locations in the Northeast and Southwest areas of the country.
As part of its expansion into the Midwest, Capriotti's has leased a corner space in the Chase Tower Building at 111 E. Wisconsin Ave. in Downtown Milwaukee. Erik Madisen Architects and Campbell Construction are doing the design and build out.
I've never had a Capriotti's sandwich, but they look good on their site. And, I'm glad that this space (formerly Mocais Cafe) has a new tenant.
Here's a bit more on Capriotti's from its "About us" section.
"In 1987, Lois and Alan added a partner, their cousin Diane Rizzo, and together they opened their second and third stores in New Castle and Newark, Delaware. Thereafter, the signature sandwiches, such as the "BobbieÂ" and other specialty sandwiches, were introduced. The formula was so successful that franchising was offered to family members. Later, due to such great demand, franchising was offered to others outside of the family. Today, Capriotti's Sandwich Shops located around the country are carrying on the tradition begun in Delaware over 30 years ago."
No word on an opening day. I'd guess it will be a few months. A cafe called Cafe Dulce also is set to open inside the Chase Tower in the comng months. Stay tuned for more details, as we get them, on both Capriotti's and Cafe Dulce.

Mkelover-Where is your downtown pad? Im not sure where you are living, or going out for that matter, but downtown milwaukee is basically a ghost town at night, period!

mkelover: to be fair, you just refuted your own statement of the ignorance of downtown being a ghost town after 5 by saying it's easy to find a table because everybody leaves. I lived downtown for a year and i loved it. But besides Marquette, and the Third Ward, neither of which i would really count as downtown, there are very few residential properties, and of those many f them are rent assistance, meaning you have people downtown, but no money. Times are changing, but it's very slow, and a few years behind the curve. I want a thriving downtown but in reality the city is too spread out for that to become a likely reality.

I love the absolute stupidy and sheer ignorance of those who claim that "there's nowhere to park downtown" and that downtown "is a ghost town after 5pm." I BEG those people to continue to hide in the suburbs and eat at Chili's. I'll keep my Downtown pad which is WALKING distance from over 100 unique restaurants and bars. Fortunately I usually don't have to wait long for a table because those who vacate Downtown at 5pm everyday never come back to overcrowd my favorite restaurants.
