Erbert & Gerbert's, an Eau Claire-based chain popular throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, closed its Downtown Milwaukee location at 612 N. Water St. It will, according to a sign on the door, be replaced by a second Brooklyn Bob's Sub Shop.
Brooklyn Bob's opened at 839 W. National Ave., in April 2005. It's owned by Bob Zaptin, of Brooklyn, and his wife Jeannie.
Erbert & Gerbert's East Side location at 2238 N. Farwell Ave. remains open.
In other Downtown sub news, another Cousin's will open "soon" at the corner of Wells and Water Streets.

Better to have sub shops than empty store fronts or ... WIG SHOPS!

Sherman-There's a Cousin's, Quizno's, Arby's, Jimmy John's, Subway, Bruegger's Bagels and what used to be Erbert & Gerbert's just to name a few. Yeah, I'd say there's no shortage of sandwich shops downtown.

Are there now more Cousin's in Downtown than Starbucks? Wow!

I agree about the whole sandwich shop explosion. Now a New York style deli in that location, charging you by the pound for your food, would be my daily lunch stop.

No surprise...there are too many sub/sandwhich places downtown. And no offense Erbert & Gerbert's has one of the worst subs I ever tasted.
