Juto brings Asian small plate dining to Walker's Point

Juto, a small-plate Asian fusion bar and restaurant, quietly opened a few days ago and last night I stopped by for a brief visit. The building, 605 W. Virginia St., is located across the street from Conejito's Place and has been home to numerous establishments, most recently Il Mito.

Juto's interior is simple and minimalist compared to Il Mito's decor which featured elaborately painted ceilings. Juto has about a dozen tables, a pool table, five flatscreen TVs and the exquisite wooden bar in the large, airy space. Last night, the TVs were on but the volume was down and pop rock music was playing.

Although we stopped by primarily for drinks, the Asian-meets-Mexican-meets-American menu looked good, and we did end up sampling the mushrooms which were sauteed in white wine and garlic and extremely tender. Also for $4, diners can order edamame, curry Cajun fires or Parmesan garlic fries. The $5 small plate offerings include homemade egg rolls, pork dumplings and cheese steak pot stickers. For $7, fried oysters, among other small plates, are available and Filet Mignon goes for $10.

Juto also offers a decent selection of Asian beers, along with a full bar.

We will definitely return to Juto to sample more of their cuisine. If you try to visit Juto in the near future, note that they have not installed signage yet, but they do have large "Now Open" banners on the building. Also, Juto does not yet have a phone number or website, but they are open every day for lunch and dinner.

yikes, people in case your too stupid to understand. This is an upscale sportsbar with small plating and finger food. My husband and I went there for dinner last week and a for a few drinks. Our server was one of the best we ever had. We were greeted with a warm welcome upon our arrvival. Drinks were brought like clock work followed by our dinner and refills. Atmosphere was excellent, projection screens with sports playing, pool table. Moderate volume music was also playing. Clean and professional staff. Food was quite smaller portion than we had expected but luckily we weren't too hungry. You have to experience it for yourself don't listen to these haters on here. The layout and design is absolutely beautiful and amazing. Looks like something out of a magazine. We will go back and bring our friends and family. Fabulous homemade egg rolls. Thanks Juto !

Haters? I shared our experience as it happened. If events hadn't transpired that way, my review would have been very different, and there would be nothing to "blast." Well, that's rich. Post an honest account of your experience, and get called a "hater" or accused of being a struggling business owner. You've summarized your experience in a sentence and spent the rest of your post "blasting" other reviewers. I'm not sure what your connection to the business or its owners might be, but you're certainly not doing them any favors.

I agree with steven. You can always spot the haters when they blast EVERYTHING about a place and write a ten page paragraph. I have been there and it was exquisit. I drank, played a couple pool games on a nice table, and all my food was great. Thats why Im listning to Molly Snyder and not these other people who OBVIOUSLY have it out for this place. Kristy, you hope the best for this place?!!! Thanks for the lol. So....so..... so........sad ;)

The only thing sad here is your strange accusations, Steveangelo! I don't see anything in these reviews that suggests either reviewer was a "struggling business owner." They just sound like dissatisfied customers, and bad word-of-mouth can easily kill a restaurant that hasn't even put up its sign yet. Of course, I can't speak for either of their experiences, but I can speak for my OWN visit to Juto this week! After reading this article, I stopped by Juto yesterday with coworkers for lunch. The business looked closed from the outside. When we entered, nobody said a word to us. We stood there waiting in a empty dining room. At 12:15! The bartender stared at us, saying nothing, across the room. I asked, "sit anywhere?" Bartender just nodded. Ten minutes later, and yes, when you are on a tight schedule, you do time things, a server came and stared at us, saying nothing. I asked "can we see a menu?" Server nods, comes back with menus, and stands there waiting for us to make a decision. As another reviewer said, the lunch menu is bleak. Only a handful of sandwiches and salads. No small plate options. There wasn't much to choose from. A coworker had a meager salad that looked like a side dish, not an entree. I had the fish po-boy, which was OK, but not great. The server couldn't tell me what kind of fish it was, which was a bit odd. The menu talked at great length about their specialty french fries, much like the OMC review did. But, I received about ten french fries in my order.....no joke. TEN. All were dried out and tasteless, aside from the chili cumin powder. They looked like those old "french fry snack sticks" that used to come in a can! I don't know that our server ever said a word to us. We had to find someone to bring us the bill. And then wait for it to be delivered. We were charged for soda refills that nobody ever asked us if we wanted. They were delivered automatically, and added to the bill just as automatically. It was, as someone else here said, like the restaurant wasn't ready to be open yet. Overall I just want to say that I want this restaurant to do well. The small plate menu, whenever it may actually be offered, is inspiring. But I don't have any idea what it's even doing.......and it doesn't seem to know either! Prices are too high for a lunch counter experience. Oh, and that pool table? In the middle of the dining room? Intrusive and ugly!

Wow! These guys above me are nuts. I would encourage anyone to NOT take these opinions seriously and see for themselves. Awsome food and great atmosphere and the games are always on. I have been there several times and it has always been a great experience. These guys are probably failing at there own restaurant or bar related bussineses and are lashing out at anyone doing it right. Very sad :(
