For the ninth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2015."

According to a post on portillos.com, Portillo's has submitted site plans to build a restaurant in Brookfield.

If you've ever been to a Portillo's, you know this is great news for greater Milwaukee.  The place is an institution in Chicagoland.  Chicago-style hot dogs, amazing Italian beef and more!

Here is the announcement:

Our proposed restaurant would be on Bluemound Road, west of Calhoun Rd. at The Shoppes at the Corridor, a new mixed-use development project. Pending successful Plan Commission and City Council review and approvals, Portillo's plans to open in the second half of 2016.

Our proposed restaurant in Brookfield would be our first in Wisconsin. While we started as a Chicagoland restaurant, our neighbors to the north have been badgering us for years to bring Portillo's across the state line. We are thrilled at the opportunity to expand into Wisconsin.

"We are excited at the opportunity to bring Portillo's to Brookfield, Wisconsin," said Portillo's CEO Keith Kinsey. "It has been a pleasure working with Mayor (Steve) Ponto and the City staff. We look forward to introducing the greater Milwaukee area to our legendary food and service."

Mayor Ponto indicated the City is looking forward to the addition of Portillo's. "We have visited the Portillo's in Vernon Hills, IL, and we came away very impressed with the service, the food, and the unique historic décor," said the Mayor. "Dick Portillo and his team have been great to work with and we look forward to welcoming the first Portillo's in Wisconsin to Brookfield."

The first Portillo's hot dog stand known as "The Dog House" opened in 1963 on North Ave. in Villa Park, Ill.

Here's how The Chicago Tribune is reporting this Flatland to Cheesehead news.
