Sil's Mini Donut Shop is closing
Sil's Mini Donut Shop, 1802 E. North Ave., will close at the end of April. The lease for the uniquely-shaped structure on the corner of North and Oakland Avenues was not renewed, but co-owner Susan Beaumont says the business will remain at the 7 Mile Fair and summer festivals.
Sil's specializes in bite-sized donuts made fresh to order, along with hotdogs and coffee drinks. The iconic drive-thru donut shop was open until 2:30 a.m. and a bar-time favorite.
"We love what we do and we love the people we do it for," says Beaumont. "We're grateful for years of loyalty."
The structure and the corner that house Sil's were redeveloped by the East Side Business Improvement District in cooperation with Charney Trust, the landlord. Sil's has been at the location for nearly 10 years.

I heard the new vendor will continue selling the mini donuts, and that is great news!! Yes......... we will continue to have these great donuts!! Also Yes I agree don't believe everything you here!! Long live mini donuts!!! As long as the donuts never leave I dont care who owns that Drive-Thru as long as the donuts stay!!!!!!!!!!!
Why don't you first WAIT and SEE what is going to go in the drive-thru before you start sounding negative!!! You never know, you might like the new vendor...:) Two sides to every story. Don't ever assume this is just the Landlord's decision...And don't believe everything you read!!!!
Very disappointing to see that a popular, viable business, providing a service thats in-demand, is being pushed out. Seems like we need more of these kinds of businesses -- locally owned, contributing to the character and fabric of the neighborhood. I'm guessing the landlord thinks they can make more money leasing it to someone else. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
So sad to see this place close! The coffee was good and affordable. I was always served by friendly employees. I'll miss the hell out of the melt-in-your-mouth donuts and late night veggie dogs. I wish the owners luck in their future endeavors.
