The "Social Circle" is a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors. Every Monday, we ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in this column. Well-known Milwaukee movers and shakers will contribute, too.

Spring forward, fall back. This is not an expression that all Milwaukeeans appreciate. Although turning the clock back in the fall means getting an "extra hour" on the weekend, it also means more darkness during most peoples’ waking hours.

The extra daylight in the summer is nice, for some, but not everyone. Especially those trying to put young children to bed before 8 p.m. or those who appreciate the earlier nightfall.

Indeed, it’s controversial, which is exactly why OnMilwaukee.com posed this question to the Social Circle this week. Here are the responses and feel free to add your own via the Talkback feature.

Scott Berg: "Waste of effort! Farmers now hate it because the change in feeding time reduces milk production for a few weeks – money lost! They have to phase the hour change in over a few weeks. As for me, it means I'm driving into the sun for twice as long on both ends of the workday."

Brian Brehmer: "It reminds me of the premise behind Shirley Jackson’s ‘The Lottery.’ Something that seems as if it has been done for a long time but with its original intent and purpose being lost."

Pam Caldwell: "Annoying."

Ted Dargis: "With the exception of an extra hour of alcoholism once every year, I find it a hassle."

Patrick Davies: "I have to have some light in the morning."

Kat Froelich: "I learned somewhere that we do it for cows. Not sure if that's true, but I hope it is because it's funny!"

Rick Hahn: "Hate it! Leave it the same time all year around. One of the few things Nixon did right!"

Bill Hartz: "We should just stay on daylight time all year. In the winter it's dark when you go to work and it's dark when you come home. What difference does an hour make?"

Christine Hupfer-Sanden: "I think it hurts the people who struggle with mental health and depression. Too much darkness."

Katari Johnson: "I like it. I’m up earlier every day."

Kirk Jonssen: "We've been turning back the clock since Walker got elected. Oh, you mean daylight savings."

Hannah Medrow: "I would prefer we not implement daylight saving in the spring, but I remember when it was tried when I was a teen, in the '70s. There were some fatal accidents involving kids getting on and off school buses in the dark. I think Florida had an increase in child abduction, if I remember correctly."

Janet Schiff: "I save my extra hour for use later."

Stephanie Sherman: "Hate it."

Jen Skladanek: "I was just having this conversation the other day with my client. I (we) both think it's silly. Time is a man-made tool and I think it should just stay the same year-round. Futile."

Toni Spott: "I like it cause it kind of breaks things up. Makes you stop and think about preparing for the season ahead."

Drew Stitzer: "I would like to turn them back to when I was 18."

Timothy Twaddle: "It is the turning them forward that is the weird thing. I like that ‘extra’ hour of sleep, which usually amounts to an extra hour of up, anyway."

Steve Wroblewski: "It's so dark outside after work that I can't find my car."

William Zuback: "I don’t like it."
