Arthritis Introspective National Conference

May is National Arthritis Awareness Month Arthritis Introspective National Conference comes to Milwaukee May 22-25, 2015 May is national Arthritis Awareness Month and Arthritis Introspective (AI) is excited to announce The Arthritis Introspective National Conference will be held May 22-25th in Milwaukee at the Hyatt Regency Downtown. The AI National Conference is the only event of its kind, bringing together young- and middle-aged adults (and their loved ones) living with rheumatic diseases from across the country for a weekend of education, empowerment, and relationship building. This three-day educational event is filled with both professional and volunteer-led physical and emotional health and wellness sessions, along with many opportunities to socialize and share the challenges and triumphs of living with this oh-so-unpredictable disease. Since 2007, hundreds of people have taken part in this special weekend. AI Co-founder and Milwaukee native, Deserae Constantineau, 40, says, “We’re so excited to be bringing to conference to Milwaukee. Living with arthritis can be not only physically debilitating, but emotionally draining as well. We sometimes isolate ourselves, fearing being ‘whiny’ or burdensome. These conferences give people living with these diseases, and the people who love them, a safe place to vent, to share fears and frustrations and celebrate small victories.” • Rheumatoid arthritis affects all ages. Over 300,000 children and 8.1 million American adults (ages 18-44) are living with some form of arthritis. * • Females are diagnosed twice as often as males. * • Arthritis or rheumatism is the leading cause of workplace disability in the United States. In Wisconsin alone, costs related to arthritis and rheumatic conditions total nearly $2.4 billion per year. This amount includes $1.5 billion in direct costs (i.e., medical expenditures) and $895 million in indirect costs (i.e., lost earnings). * Arthritis Introspective is the first national non-profit organization founded and led by volunteers living with rheumatoid arthritis with the goal of connecting and empowering those living with arthritis and its related autoimmune diseases through wellness education and support services. Programming for the weekend will address career development, ADA and workplace rights, acupuncture, complementary holistic therapies, parenting with arthritis, advances in foot/ankle health, writing toward wellness, loved ones/partners tracks and more, concluding with a Memorial Day Milwaukee river tour and luncheon. Early Registration: $65 (through April 12, 2015); $80 after.
