The iconic Jake's Deli, founded in 1955, will open inside the Shops of Grand Avenue on Dec. 1.
Jake's Delicatessen, 1634 W. North Ave., is a mainstay on Milwaukee's North Side, and this summer expanded with food offerings at Miller Park and Wisconsin State Fair. In 2007, then-new co-owner Brian Miller, told OnMilwaukee.com that it would be a "natural progression for (Jake's) to be Downtown." Now it is.
Jake's will occupy 160 square feet on level two of the Downtown mall.
The North Avenue location will remain open, too.
In other Grand Avenue news, Renaissance Books, a classic bookshop with a location at Mitchell International Airport and a closed location at 834 N. Plankinton Avenue, will occupy 998 square feet on the first level at 3rd Street and Wisconsin Avenue. And, Sachen Contemporary Imports (Zok-Hen), located in the Third Ward, will occupy a kiosk near Walgreen's on the first level.
All three new leases are a part of the mall's pop-up leasing recruitment program, a joint effort between Grand Avenue and the Greater Milwaukee Committee that has rendered more than 31,000 square feet in occupancy for The Shops of Grand Avenue.
Jake's has signed a one-year lease, and the other businesses have inked seasonal deals that run through January but may be extended.
