After four years in business, Paper Boat Boutique & Gallery, 2375 S. Howell Ave., is closing May 31. Owners Faythe Levine and Kim Kisiolek host their final gallery opening this spring Gallery Night, Friday, April 17.
The reception, 7-10 p.m., will feature work by Wisconsin artist Micaela O'Herlihy.
Levine tells us the Boat is sailing out with a big sale, so get the while getting's good. She has these closing words for us:
"We thank you so very much for your support over the past four years. Even though the Boat is closing, we are excited to seek out new opportunities and projects. We also want to stress the importance of supporting the remaining small businesses and galleries in Milwaukee. Those spaces are vital to keeping our city and our community unique and enjoyable."
Levine has organized Milwaukee's very successful Art vs. Craft show since 2004.

BEST. HAPPENING. EVER. Calling it a "store" does not do it justice. Was never oppressively or consciously hip. It just was. A sad day for Milwaukee and Milwaukee artists. Long live Paper Boat.

This is a sad turn of events for Milwaukee. I will miss this little shop, but hope their artists will continue to sell some of their stuff on at least the etsy.com site. Are the Art Vs Craft shows going to continue?

This makes me very sad. Paper Boat played a crucial role in igniting the DYI creative scene in Milwaukee. A visit there left me uplifted and inspired. The Art vs. Craft shows gathered artists and crafters from Milwaukee and beyond to showcase their work and share their energy and new ideas. I'm going to miss it.
